In the 2022-cycle 49 utilities from 20 different countries participated. Together they serve a significant number of consumers across Europe and beyond.
The IB2021 Public Report shows ranges and median values of 36 key indicators for drinking water- and wastewater services. Moreover, this report for the first time shows trends in the development of the selected performance indicators over 3-5 years. In order to present a balanced view on the performance of utilities, EBC analyses six performance areas: Access, Water quality, Reliability, Service quality, Sustainability and Finance & Efficiency.
For drinking water the report contains indicators like population coverage, quality of supplied water, percentage of lead service connections, mains failures, distribution losses, services complaints, affordability, electricity use, climate footprint, cost coverage by sales revenues, mains rehabilitation, PPP-corrected average water charges, collection ratio and personnel intensity.
For wastewater indicators like population connected to sewers, wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) compliance, sewer and connection blockages, flooding from combined sewers, total complaints, affordability, WWTP energy consumption, climate footprint, cost coverage by sales revenues ratio, sewer rehabilitation, PPP-corrected average wastewater charges, collection ratio and personnel intensity are included.
Next to the key indicators, the Public Report contains good practices and participants' experiences. This year with contributions from Canal de Isabel II (Spain), the Municipal Water and Sewage Company in Wroclaw (Poland), Krakow Water (Poland), Vitens (The Netherlands), Tampere Water Municipal Enterprice (Finland) and Waterbedrijf Groningen N.V. (The Netherlands).
